Gaiman is on a nine-city tour, reading through different chapters of the book each night. The readings are being videotaped and streamed at Mouse Circus, Gaiman's website for young readers.

The Graveyard Book follows the misadventures of a young orphaned boy named Nobody who lives in a graveyard. All of Nobody's friends are dead (or undead), so he's bound to get in a bit of bother here and there. By the end of Gaiman's tour, the entire story will be told in the video clips.

Wired.com caught up with Gaiman, who's known for his influential comics series The Sandman and his Hugo Award-winning novella Coraline, before a reading in Palo Alto, California.

In the video interview (embedded), we ask him about The Graveyard Book and why he's giving it away. Gaiman explains that his new book is a reworking of Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book, only instead of animals, Nobody's mentors are mostly dead people.

Gaiman's reading tour continues this week. He appears Monday in Los Angeles, Tuesday in Boulder, Colorado, and Wednesday in St Paul, Minnesota.
